Libya Marks the 38th Anniversary
of Great Al-Fateh Revolution

On September 1st, the Libyan people proudly celebrated their national day, also known as the 38th anniversary of the bloodless Al-Fateh Revolution. The day is significant because it commemorates the overthrow of King Idris I, which paved the way for the establishment of a republic and, ultimately, economic and social development in the country.
In Manila, the People’s Bureau of the Great Socialist People’s Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, led by Charge d’Affaires, a.i., Sadek A.S. Osman, hosted an elegant reception at the ballroom of the Mandarin Oriental, Manila. The well-attended affair, which was graced by members of the diplomatic and consular corps as well as prominent personalities from government and the business community in the Philippines, was a testament to the good relations between the two countries.
Stretching across a vast area of over 1.8 million square kilometers along the northeast coast of Africa, bordering Egypt on the east, Algeria on the west and Chad and Sudan to the south, Libya is the fourth largest country on the continent. In the years preceding the Great Al-Fateh Revolution, Libya was considered one of the poorest nations in the world. Today, under the leadership of Col. Muammar Abu-Minyar Al-Qadhafi, Libya has one of the most dynamic and progressive economies in Africa. Moreover, Libya is also an important member of the community of nations and an active member of the United Nations. Likewise Libya has worked closely with the Philippines to promote inter-faith dialogue, lasting peace and economic development in Mindanao.
