Ambassador
of Brazil Carlos Eduardo Sette Camara Da
Fonseca Costa hosted a reception at his
residence in Makati City to celebrate
Brazilian National Day last September 7. The
date marks the occasion when Dom Pedro, son
of King Joăo VI of Portugal, declared his
independence from his father and Portugal.
Brazil was colonized by Portugal from 1500
until its independence in 1822. The country
has been a republic since 1889. Officially
named the Federative Republic of Brazil, it
is the fifth-largest country by geographical
area, the fifth most populous country, and
the fourth most populous democracy in the
world. The reception also served as a
farewell to outgoing Ambassador Costa, who
was ending a fruitful term of office which
saw the signing of the first Memorandum of
Agreement between Brazil and the
Philippines. The capable, amiable and very
tall envoy will surely be missed by his many
friends and colleagues in the country.
What’s On & Expat congratulates the people
of Brazil, headed by President Luiz Inácio
Lula da Silva, on the occasion of their
National Day. Parabéns!
