Last
Saturday, October 20 was a special night for
all South Africans when their national rugby
team, the Springboks, defeated defending
champions England 15-6 to claim the World Cup
for the second time in a match packed with
atmosphere.
With millions of viewers around the world watching the match here in
Manila, Springbok supporters gathered to cheer
their team. It was a night for lumps in the
throat, for tears in the eye and for massive
stirrings of patriotism - |
|
with almost everyone
proudly donning their green and gold colors,
singing the national anthem and spurring their
team on to victory with screams of “Go Bokke!”.
When the final whistle blew, the anxious atmosphere dissipated and was
replaced by unreserved jubilation.
The World Cup means so much to South Africa and it was great to share the
victory with other proudly South African
expatriates. Well done Springboks. (Lea-Anne
