Comes Together

On the Day of
German Unity, all of Deutschland commemorates the
reunification of what was then the German Democratic
Republic (commonly called “East Germany”) into the
Federal Republic of Germany (“West Germany”) on
October 3, 1990. This October 3rd marked the 17th
anniversary of German Unity, and also a particularly
good year for Germany which held the European
Council Presidency for the first half of 2007. As
German President Horst Kohler stated, “Germany can
look to the future with confidence. The challenges
facing the world community are immense. Our nation
has both the strength and the will to make an
|
|
effective
contribution towards tackling those challenges.”
This year saw newly-arrived German Ambassador
Christian-Ludwig Weber-Lortsch presiding over the
grand reception at the Dusit Hotel Nikko Hotel in
Makati City which was attended by his family, the
diplomatic corps, prominent individuals from
business and government circles, and of course the
German community in the Philippines. The event was
also part of the yearly German month celebrations,
culminating in the much-anticipated Oktoberfest.
