Dogs Not Home Alone

By Katrina N. Cabanos

With the holidays just around the corner, most of us are surely busy “making lists, buying special gifts” and of course, making plans to take time off with our family. Sadly, this time of year when many people leave for vacation, the most loyal member of the family is often left behind.
With the lack of pet-friendly establishments around, having the family dog in tow on trips doesn’t seem like such a good idea. And when leaving it home alone is out of the question, what is a dog owner going to do?

         Samson and Mom, Inc.
When Danish expatriate Pernille Harboe made accessories and clothes, like sweaters and raincoats, for her beloved wheelchair-bound pooch, Samson, people took notice . Soon enough, she found herself with a deluge of orders for custom made doggie fashion.
What began as a hobby eventually grew into a lucrative business and expanded into other pet-care related ventures. Samson and Mom, Inc. is already a staple at international

ize of the dog and includes food, bathing and playtime with the staff. Owners can breathe easy knowing that they will be leaving their precious pets in good hands. Harboe, together with a staff of three, will bathe the dogs once a week, feed them twice daily as well as set aside time to play and cuddle with them. For the more high-maintenance pooches, special grooming and special meals can also be arranged.
In contrast to most boarding kennels available, like those offered in some veterinary clinics and pet shops, the dogs will not be caged or leashed. Instead, they are free to roam and romp around in the large, manicured garden. At nights, the dogs will be sleeping in the lanai (porch) in their own baskets or pillows. The warm body next to them will surely provide comfort and help dispel loneliness while they await their master’s return.

Aside from having a free roam of the sprawling garden and lanai, Samson and Mom, Inc. offers services to ensure a truly enjoyable stay for your

bazaars and its line of doggie clothing and accessories has found a niche among trendy dog owners and their equally trendy pets.
Harboe often travels with her dog Merlin, Samson’s grand nephew. The diminutive Yorkie may be privileged enough to accompany his master on trips but not all pets will be as lucky. As a result, Pernille decided to open up her sprawling home as a boarding kennel of sorts exclusively for dogs.
  Cost depends upon the

pets. For their much needed exercise, dogs will be taken on daily walks around the village by the staff. For those having trouble with wayward pets and their naught antics, additional training can be arranged as per the owner’s request. A trusted veterinarian will visit on a regular basis to check on the condition of the dogs.
Any kind of dog, regardless of size, will be accepted. However, owners of toy-sized

pooches need not fret at the idea of larger dogs roughhousing with their tiny pets.
Harboe guarantees that each boarder will be dealt with on a case to case basis. The only requirement is that the dogs must have updated vaccinations and they be treated for ticks and fleas first before dropping them off. This is to guarantee safety and to avoid spreading parasites to the other hapless, furry boarders. In addition, female dogs in heat are absolutely not allowed. Naturally, it would cause a ruckus with the male boarders and since the dogs will not be in cages, the owner might end up taking home more dogs than they expect to.
Harboe suggests that the dogs come with their own baskets and their favorite toy to

make the change of environment a little easier on them. Also, “to have a little bit of home” and to avoid homesickness, she recommends that each dog come with a shirt that carries his master’s scent.
With all the excitement your dog is sure to have, you may find that you weren’t even missed, when its time to bring them home.
Samson and Mom, Inc. operates on a first-come, first-serve-basis. The number of dogs that they can accommodate is limited in order to ensure a pleasant environment.  Foreign Direct Investments in
Southeast Asia Grow

Foreign direct investments (FDI) in Southeast Asia maintain its upward trend in 2006 and the trend seems like “promising” in 2007.
This was disclosed by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development recently in a press briefing hosted by the United Nations Information Center (UNIC) office here. Prof. Jovi Dacanay presented the World Investment Report 2007.
The report said that China and Hong Kong retained their positions as the largest FDI recipients in the region, India and Singapore followed.

The primary and services sector in the region received significantly higher FDI inflows in 2006, according to the report. It also noted increases in the services sector such as retailing in China, telecommunications in Thailand, transportation in Hong Kong
