Northwest Airlines, the only U.S. carrier that can take pride in having the longest history of service in the Philippines, recently celebrated their 60 years of continuous service in the country with a grand cocktail reception held at the plush Makati Shangri-la Hotel last September 13. The affair, well attended by frequent fliers and partners in the industry, showed an upbeat video presentation highlighting NWA’s history in the Pacific.
Early into the celebrations, NWA launched its tie-up with the Philippine branch of Make-a-Wish Foundation giving their guests the unique opportunity to make a difference in the life of a Filipino Child, stricken with a life threatening illness. By donating WorldPerks miles to the Foundation, WorldPerks members help make the wishes of a number of the Foundation’s wards to travel to the US come true. To the delight of the Foundation and of NWA, the successful launch garnered a total of 386,000 miles, the equivalent of 6 roundtrip tickets to the U.S.
The evening was capped and made even more memorable by the entrance of the 72-piece Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, accompanied by singer, Calvin Millado, and internationally

renowned Maestro Eugene Castillo. This exclusive performance left the guests in awe as they enthusiastically applauded every rendition of classical and broadway hits.
Not to be missed were the two world business class round trip tickets to the
US. NWA raffled off, alongside other minor prizes including 60 winners of travel credit vouchers worth USD500 each.
The occasion was a fitting celebration to mark NWA’s 60 year anniversary in the Pacific and demonstrated once again NWA commitment to the Philippines. On hand to welcome the guests was the NWA Team led by Jim Mueller-managing director-Asia, Todd Anderson-general manager, Philippines, Gina Campos-NWA-ITI general manager, Tricia Celis-marketing communications manager, Jojo Veneracion-Finance/Lega/HR manager, NWA Cargo GM – Bok Munoz and the ever dynamic NWA Philippine Team.
