Auguri Italy!

Former President Fidel Ramos and Italian Amb. Rubens Fedele
One of the cradles of civilization with millennia worth of history and culture, Italy continues to stand as a major world power and economy moving forward at the cutting edge of design, fashion, technology and the arts. It boasts of the 7th-highest GDP and the seventeenth-highest Human Development Index rating in the world. It is a member of the Group of 8 and a founding member of what is now the European Union, the Council of Europe, the Western European Union and the Central European Initiative. Starting January 1, 2007, Italy became a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. Last April 25, the anniversary of Italy’s liberation during the 2nd World War, Italians celebrated their 61st National Day. Italian Ambassador Rubens Anna Fedele and Mme. Cosetta Fedele hosted a grand reception at the Coconut Palace in the Cultural Center Complex which was attended by Italian nationals and prominent members of Manila society, government and business circles, the media, and the diplomatic corps. The party featured the best of Italy with a fashion show, fine Italian cuisine, and displays of select Italian products. In his message, the ambassador acknowledged President Arroyo’s successful visit to Rome in 2006, and the mutually beneficial contributions of the 120,000 Filipinos in Italy and 1,000 Italians in the Philippines to both our countries. What’s On & Expat wishes the Italian people all the best on their National Day!
