I still don’t know Manila very much. I’m married with a child so I don’t go out much at night. Since I’ve been very passionate for many years about culture and the arts, I will spend the night at the Cultural Center of the Philippines, with the artists there. I will be very pleased to know more about them. There are so many companies that are based there. So that will be a great pleasure for me. To be with intellectuals as well, we could have some writers, some painters, and we’ll all get to know each other really well. That would be a great evening.

If I would have to spend the night in Manila I would definitely choose the new rooms of the Sofitel Philippine Plaza. You’re facing the sea and you can rest from your problems but you’re still in Manila. So it’s really relaxing and the food is excellent. What I like about Manila is the diversity, you can go to different places. You can dine in Greenbelt then go to the Embassy club, or listen to bands at Saguijo, or enjoy the Malate nightlife at Penguin, or go to the CCP to see a classical concert or theatrical performance. What I find really fascinating are the different flavours of Manila.

I would go to La Solidaridad, the bookstore, and buy really good Filipino books. Go to somewhere along Manila Bay, maybe the garden of the Sofitel hotel, and read, watch the sun dive into the water, and then maybe hang out around some bars in the Fort.
