Manila’s posh shoppers should mark their calendars for the most stylish sale event ever launched. On April 13 to 15, Globe Telecom treats subscribers of their premiere lifestyle brand, Globe Platinum, to an exclusive fashion affair at the Rockwell Tent. Fashionistas can look forward to the splashy debut of La Copa – the latest style source featuring its own line of chic personal fashion and unique, painstakingly-chosen pieces by premier designers like 3.1 Philip Lim, Marc Jacobs, Anna Sui, Catherine Malandrino, Marni, Blumarine, See by Chloe, CNC Costume National, Tsumori Chisato and more – as it holds its first-ever sample sale in the country. But this won’t be just any ordinary retail experience, personal stylists and fitting room assistants will be on hand to provide crucial fashion emergency assistance and individualized style support.

To launch this major fashion phenomenon, Globe Platinum and Grupo La Copa recently invited leading personalities in the fashion, media and lifestyle circles to a special runway show at the exclusive Palm Grove of the Rockwell Club. The event served as a sneak peek into the designer originals that will be part of the sale event that will be open only to Globe Platinum subscribers. However, each subscriber is allowed to bring two lucky guests to help spread the fun fashion shopping around! Grupo La Copa guarantees that the pieces to be highlighted are timeless, one-of-a-kind and original. Each article of clothing has been carefully chosen to inject a dose of originality, adventure and spice to ladies who equate fashion with individuality.

Grupo La Copa partners Isabel Roces, Diane Tan, Regina Sambalido and Melanie Go

After the exclusive sale, the Grupo La Copa Boutique will open its doors at Penthouse 2, Mancor Corporate Center, 32nd Street, Bonifacio Global City in June 2007.

As befits this collaboration between the vanguards of fashion and technology, hi-speed internet access by Globe Visibility and the latest phone models from Samsung.Mobile will be available to compliment the cutting edge designs. Tabaco by Jose Enrique Soriano

It is the culture of this industry, kept alive by the fading numbers of tobacco growers and rollers that Soriano captures in this exhibit. Women are More Curious than Men

By Carmencita H. Acosta

It must be in the genes! Or is it an unscientific presumption?

Women from anywhere in the world are far more curious than men.

A new neighbor moves in. A baby is born. A wedding is to take place in church. A new product is being introduced. All these and more. Depend on the women to be the first to ask who, what, where and why. The men usually learn what’s on and what’s up from their womenfolk.

This brings us to the world of advertising, of selling and of television.

QTV 11
Those of you who have the leisure to watch television for hours on end must know about QTV 11 and its programming style -- mind-provoking news commentaries and programs appealing to both genders. Well, all that is now history. QTV 11 last week announced a radical makeover.

New mainstays of QTV 11: Lucy Torres Gomez (right) is more curious than Raymond Gutierrez (below)

Makeover is perhaps the fitting pun to use because QTV 11 from now on is to feature programs especially for the gratification of women. QTV 11 is now a station for women. But those of the male gender are not to fret because what makes their wife, daughters, sisters and mother happy will unequivocally make them happy as well.

Many new faces will grace the QTV 11 screen; new to QTV 11 but highly familiar with the public. To mention some: Lucy Torres Gomez who will tackle food, wardrobe, make-up, shopping, health and children and Christine Jacob Sandejas who will host a bridal and wedding program.

Public Service, Too
Women’s innate desire to assist the helpless has not been overlooked. QTV 11 has public service programs such as “Sana’y Muling Makapiling” (May They Be Reunited Again) which seeks to bring lost children back to their respective homes. Surprisingly, in Metro Manila alone, hundreds of lost children have been waiting for long in temporary shelters because their families have yet to locate them. “Women’s Desk” will receive and act on complaints by and on behalf of battered women and children. “At Your Service” will make use of celebriites’ influence to help others in need of assistance from government and other institutions.

The Men, Too
Male celebrities have also been tapped to help the women deal with sundry issues, foremost among them is Raymond Gutierrez who hosts “Living It Up,” a lifestyle show. Arnell Ignacio hosts “Stars on Ice,” a unique feature on ice-skating which is both a sport and an art “RX Men” spotlights a team of young doctors answering health questions from those suffering from illnesses.
