International Hash Run at Matabungkay

Matabungkay Beach Resort and Hotel and the Matabungkay Hash House Harriers will host the Philippines Nash Hash to be attended by international participants. The event will kick off in Matabungkay on Feb. 16. Matabungkay Beach Resort and Hotel has been organizing local Hash House Harrier Runs during the past few years, but this is the first time that the Resort will be hosting this grand international Hash event.

Hash House Harriers

The Hash House Harriers (the original “drinking club with a running problem”) is an international drinking and running club founded in 1938 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia by a group of British nationals led by Albert Stephen Ignatius Gispert, Cecil Lee, “Horse” Thomson and “Torch” Bennett.
The Hash House Harrier runs were patterned after the traditional British public school “paper chase” wherein a hare would be given a head start, marking his path with shreds of paper.

A pack of harriers will then pursue the hare. What was formerly a group of British sportsmen having fun has now become a world-wide legacy. Today, there are almost 1,500 hashes found in almost all major cities in the world. The World Hash House Harriers Database that is maintained by Global Trash keeps members up-to-date. What separates the Hash House Harriers from other harriers groups is the emphasis on social camaraderie and non-competitive aspects of the group’s activities.

The objectives of the Hash House Harriers are to promote physical fitness among its members, get rid of weekend hangovers, acquire a good thirst and satisfy it in beer and convince old members that they are not as old as they feel.

The Philippines Nash Hash 2007 features three complete hashes from Feb. 16 to 18; a choice of short, medium, long and ball-buster trails complete with drink stops and fantastic country terrain; selection of fresh fruit serves at the end of each trail; three all-you-can-eat buffest style meals; ice-cold beer and drinks served from noon to midnight on Feb. 16 to 17 and 8am to 6pm on Feb. 18; pack with multiple items, beach parties, Nash Hash Olympics, among others. All interested individuals can register for USD60 or Php3,000. For any inquiries, please call (02) 752-5252, (02) 819-3080,(02) 751-6883 to 85 or visit their website at www.matabungkay.net.
