On our 30th wedding anniversary, we were on a boat in New Zealand. It wasn’t crazy but it was something exciting. We started with the two of us wanting to go there but we ended up with seven other couples wanting to join us. They’re all high school pals. But the crazy thing I did was during winter in Rotorua, New Zealand. We were in a motel with a Jacuzzi it was very cold, 0 degrees. We stripped, went to the outdoor Jacuzzi and then, I won’t tell you what followed.

That was probably during our wedding where I carried my wife down the steps of the resort wearing our grass skirts and I was bare-chested. After that I can’t tell you more. Also, during her birthday, I got two tubes of toothpaste which I used to write on the mirror to tell her about her birthday present.

I had a friend who ran a dance company and I told her that I would write a piece for her dance company if she gave me enough money to visit my girlfriend in New York. And I lived in New Zealand then so it was a very long way to New York. And I flew all the way there, got an advance for the piece, and completely forgot about writing the music for the dance company, and when I came back I had a terrible shock. My friend had to do the work herself. I was in New York for 5 days and considering it takes 2 days to get from New Zealand to New York, it wasn’t very smart.

When I was living in China, with my future wife used to be on the phone for about an hour and a half talking, we used to text each other. From our first date to the time we got married, it was a total of five days. That was the craziest thing that we did for love.

I sent my wife, who was then my girlfriend, a singing telegram in their school. During their lunch break at the cafeteria, which was full of her friends and other people, the guy just burst out a song for her.

The craziest thing I have ever done for love was stripping in front of the girl’s dorm with three of my friends. We almost got arrested for it, public intoxication. That was back in college. Why did we strip? To get attention and we did.

Getting married at 17. Because at 17, you don’t know what you’re doing.
