Officials of the Embassy of Pakistan in Manila held a flag hoisting ceremony on March 23 celebrating the 67th National Day of their country. The occasion was held at the residence of Pakistani Ambassador Muhammad Naeem Khan in North Forbes Park, Makati. About 50 Pakistani residents in Manila, working in various sectors such as Asian Development Bank and multinational companies in the country, witnessed the celebration.
The occasion, according to Charge d’ Affaires of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Zahoor Ahmed, commemorates the origin of the idea behind the creation of Pakistan. On March 23, 1940, All India Muslim League, the representative party of the Muslims of the sub-continent, passed a historic resolution in Lahore demanding the establishment of a separate homeland for Muslims to protect their political, economic and cultural rights. “Within eight years of the passing of this Resolution, Pakistan appeared on the globe of the world,” Ahmed said.
In a published speech, Ahmed, who led the ceremony on behalf of the ambassador, said Pakistan’s President General Pervez Musharraf and the whole of Pakistan has joined the Philippines to promote interfaith harmony and understanding.
2007 is also declared Visit Pakistan year. Known to be a land of high adventure and nature, the Pakistani government invites everyone to experience in the colors of Pakistan’s “illustrious heritage” where each region of the country has an art of its own.
